Atlanta, GA - Vaccinations

We spent two hours at the DeKalb County Board of Health, getting the first round of vaccinations for our trip. We were shot full of Typhoid, Hep A/B, MMR, Tdap (Tetanus, Diptheria, Pertussis), and Polio. Sore arms and all we were happy to walk as far away as possible from nurse Becky and her army of needles. We will return again in a few weeks to finish the regimen (only one shot next time). The best medication for malaria prevention is malarone even at $5 per pill for each day we are in a malaria risk area!! Malarone pills can not be administered at the Board of Health, so our primary care doctors are writing these prescriptions for us. We also plan on bringing DEET (30% or higher) and a mosquito net (sprayed with permethrin) for sleeping under. We were very pleased to get this part of the preparation out of the way!
