We arrived in Christchurch and parked the campervan at Stonehurst, a comprehensive complex of dorm rooms, campervan sites, flats, etc. We parked the van, cooked up a mean beef stir fry, and went for a walk through the city. The dominant structure in Christchurch is the Christchurch Cathedral (consecrated in 1881) in Cathedral Square with it's 206 feet spire on the top. It is an impressive structure that rises above the city's central square where trams and people bustle about all day. Also in the center of the square you will find a 60 foot high Metal Chalice called the Sculpture, cereated by Neil Dawson to acknowledge the new millenium. There is also a life size chess board and pieces in constant use. We enjoyed a riverside walk along the Avon River and then settled in back at Stonehurst to begin planning our trip to Southeast Asia.
NZ is a fantastic country both for it's scenery and people. Over 80 million possums, 50 million sheep, 20 million cows, 4 million people, 3,000 glaciers, two islands and over 1,500 km clocked on 'Da Cruza -- NZ has certainly been an inspiring trip and a great place to get to know. Everyone should try to plan a trip here - it is simply stunning and such a kind place to travel. Can't wait to come back! Click HERE for more pics.
